IPL 2020: KKR punches big win over DC
Kolkata Knight Riders leapt up high with a huge win over Delhi Capitals by 59 runs; credit to a pair of half centuries by Sunil Narine and Nitish Rana.
KKR saga continued later on as well when spinner Varun Chakravarthy punched down the Capitals with his maiden five-wicket-haul; this was, however, the first of it’s kind in this year’s competition.
Kolkata overcame from their previous bad patch when Nitish Rana and Sunil Narine ventured a 115-run stand in 59 balls after the team lost 3 wickets at the score of 42. Nitish scored 81 runs facing 53 deliveries with the help of 13 shots to the boundary and a huge six while Narine clutched things well with 64 (32 balls) featuring six shots for and four shots of sixes.
While defending, Pat Cummins was on the rise removing Ajinkya Rahane and Shikhar Dhawan in close proximity.
Thereafter, it was all Varun Chakravarthy who ended with a stand out figure of 5/20.
The 59-run win led Kolkata Knight Riders to firm their spot in top four along with enhancement of the net run rate.
After the match, coach Brendon McCullum praised Narine’s effort. He said, “He has had a lot of adversity and overcome it on every occasion.” Meanwhile Sunil Narine said,
“It’s been a while. Happy to be back and performing.”
“I think he (Rana) showed unbelievable character to come through adversity, particularly when it’s about family. He continues to grieve at this moment but trying to channel exactly what he is trying to do and churning out runs is a huge credit to him,” Skipper Morgan said.
