IPL 2020: Mumbai Indians’ fast bowler Behrendorff ruled out
In what comes as a big blow to Mumbai Indians’ bowling brigade, fast bowler Jason Behrendorff has been ruled out of the upcoming cash-rich edition of the Indian Premier League. Australian left-arm pacer has made up his mind to undergo surgery only to put an end to all these back problems.
It should be noted that he has had a string of back issues and due to which he was forced to withdraw from IPL 2018. Since the ICC World Cup 2019 tournament, he has been thinking to undergo surgery.
He also recently met New Zealand-based surgeon Rowan Schouten to talk about his history of injuries which is keeping him out of contention. Surgeon Grahame Inglis is the one who will be in the operation theatre to perform the surgery on Behrendorff.
Behrendorff will be jetting off to New Zealand with his family soon and will undergo the surgery to be back in full swing. His absence means that he will be out of cricketing action for at least 9 to 12 months. He would sincerely hope to get fit for the T20 World Cup that will be held in Australia next year.
It has been a nightmare for him to deal with back issues which kept him out of playing first-class cricket since 2017. Following his magical spell of 4-0-21-4 against India only in his second T20I (in 2017), he impressed the selectors and was given a chance to play the iconic Ashes but was unfortunately ruled out due to a back issue.
In the mega IPL auction that happened three months later, he was roped in by Mumbai Indians for Rs. 1.5 Crores. He had to skip the season due to back issues but played for the four-time champions in IPL 2019, where he bagged five wickets in as many matches.
Behrendorff not playing the IPL 2019 was a blessing in disguise for Australia as he was a part of World Cup 2019 squad where he picked 9 wickets in just 5 matches. He was quite sensational when he took 5/44 against England at Lord’s.
