IPL 2020: Warner breaks Kohli’s massive IPL record
Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) captain David Warner, one of the consistent performers in the Indian Premier League (IPL), has achieved a sensational record. He broke the record of Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) captain Virat Kohli to become the fastest to reach 5,000 runs in the IPL.
Kohli, the highest run-getter in IPL, took 157 innings to reach that feet. But Warner reached there comprehensively in just 135 innings. Suresh Raina and Rohit Sharma took 173 and 187 innings respectively. Only these four have 5,000 runs in the tournament.
Warner entered the 5,000 club against the Kolkata Knight Riders in Abu Dhabi on Sunday. Before batting, he was 10 runs away from this feat.
Warner batted at number four, surprising everyone when chasing Kolkata’s 163 runs. He played an unbeaten innings of 47 off 33 balls with 5 fours. However, he could bring win for the team. After the tied match, his team lost in the Super Over.
Warner, who became the first foreign cricketer to score 5,000 runs in the tournament, has scored 4 centuries and 48 half-centuries. AB de Villiers is next with 4,680 runs among the foreigners. Chris Gayle, who has scored the most 6 centuries in IPL, has scored 4,537 runs.
Warner also has the highest average of 43.05 and 141.05 strike rate among the batsmen who have scored 5,000 runs in the IPL.
