IPL 2021: KKR captain Morgan fined for slow over rate against CSK
It seems that IPL captains are finding it really tough to complete the innings within 90 minutes. Earlier, Chennai Super Kings captain MS Dhoni was penalized Rs 12 lakh for a slow over-rate against Delhi Capitals in their first game.
After that, Mumbai Indians’ captain Rohit Sharma was fined Rs 12 lakh for the team’s slow over-rate against Delhi Capitals. Now, Kolkata Knight Riders’ captain Eoin Morgan was fined for a slow over-rate against CSK.
KKR captain has been fined INR 12 lakh for maintaining a slow over-rate on April 21 (Wednesday). It should be noted that this is KKR’s first offence of the season under the IPL’s Code of Conduct in relation to a minimum over-rate offences.
According to the IPL guidelines, Morgan is docked 12 lakh in fine for slow over-rate. If KKR repeats the same for the second time, then a fine for Morgan is doubled (INR 24 lakh) while every other player of the playing XI is fined 25% of the match fee or Rs 6 lakh – whichever is lesser.
If suppose when the offence is committed for the third time in a season, Morgan has to pay INR 30 lakh and serve a one-match ban. Moreover, the rest of the cricketers of the playing XI are penalised with INR 12 lakh or 50 per cent of the match fee – whichever is lesser.
Talking about the game, CSK scored 220/3 in 20 overs with the help of Faf du Plessis’ 95 off 60 balls and Ruturaj Gaikwad’s 64 off 42 balls. In reply, KKR were stuttering at 31/5 before Andre Russell, Dinesh Karthik and Pat Cummins tried their best to chase down the target.
Russell scored a 21-ball fifty and ended up getting bowled by Sam Curran. Karthik was dismissed leg before wicket off Lungi Ngidi where he departed for 40 off 24 balls. Pat Cummins scored an unbeaten 66 off 34 balls and nearly pulled it off in the end but KKR lost the game by 18 runs.
