IPL 2021: List of cricketers who opted out of the tournament so far

The 14th edition of the Indian Premier League has already lived up to the reputation as the cricket fraternity witnessed nail-biters, high-scoring encounters. Batsmen have been smashing sixes all around the park, bowlers are also fighting the good fight against the dangerous hitters in the truncated version of the game.

IPL 2021: List of cricketers who opted out of the tournament so far

The ongoing season of the IPL is being played behind closed doors due to the coronavirus pandemic surge. Due to coronavirus, the league is played in a bio-bubble environment. Meanwhile, the league saw players opting themselves out of the tournament for some reasons. Some ruled out of the tourney due to injuries.

On the other hand, some opted out of the ongoing tournament owing to fatigue over living in a bio-bubble. Rajasthan Royals’ player Liam Livingstone was the latest to pull himself out of the tournament due to bio-bubble fatigue.

Meanwhile, there were other cricketers who opted out of the tournament in a bid to avoid being recruited by a team before pulling out. England international Mark Wood and South African pacer Dale Steyn decided to pull out of the tournament due to personal reasons.

On the other hand, three Australians namely Josh Phillippe, Mitchell Marsh and Josh Hazlewood withdrew their contracts in order to focus on the Australian domestic circuits ahead of the Ashes.

Delhi Capitals’ regular captain Shreyas Iyer has been ruled out before the start of the tournament due to injury and that’s the same case with Rinku Singh. The likes of T Natarajan and Ben Stokes were also ruled out of this season’s IPL due to injuries sustained during the course of the tournament.

Meanwhile, Jofra Archer was doubtful to participate in the cash-rich IPL right from the start due to an injury. The England Cricket Board also confirmed that he would not take part in the tournament as they do not want to risk their player.
