The Kolkata Knight Riders have appointed Bharat Arun as their bowling coach ahead of IPL 2022, the franchise announced on Friday.

Two-time Indian Premier League champions Kolkata Knight Riders have appointed Bharat Arun as bowling coach ahead of the 2022 season. Arun has had a great run with Team India as a bowling catcher in the past as his stint recently ended after the 2021 T20 World Championship. He received much credit for the success of the Indian fast bowling unit in overseas conditions.
Arun began his coaching career with the Tamil Nadu national team and became Head Bowling Coach at the National Cricket Academy in Bangalore. He then took over as head coach of the India U19 national team and it was under his leadership that India won the 2012 U19 World Cup in Australia.
Arun is sure to bring a wealth of experience to the KKR coaching staff, which is led by Brendon McCullum.
“We are pleased to introduce you to our new bowling trainer! Welcome to the Knight Riders family, Bharat Arun," KKR tweeted.
In announcing his appointment, Venky Mysore, CEO & MD of KKR said, “We are delighted to have someone of the caliber of Bharat Arun as our bowling coach. He will bring a wealth of experience and expertise to KKR's strong support team. We are delighted to welcome him to the Knight Riders family.”
KKR were the runners-up last IPL season when they played an attacking brand of cricket in the United Arab Emirates leg. However, prior to the mega IPL auction, KKR retained only four players - Andre Russell, Venkatesh Iyer, Sunil Narine and Varun Chakravarthy.
Several top-tier players including captain Eoin Morgan, Dinesh Karthik, Pat Cummins and Shakib Al Hasan have been sacked despite a good 2021 IPL season.
KKR head coach Brendon McCullum also gave Arun a warm welcome, saying his international experience will help the players.
“A warm welcome to B Arun to the KKR coaching team. With a strong and successful pedigree in international play, I'm sure Arun will complement our current team and look forward to working with him. His international level experience and ability to bring confidence and clarity to our bowling group will be important as we seek to quickly adapt a new group of players to KKR's values and style of play," said McCullum.
"I'm very excited and excited to be part of a hugely successful franchise like Knight Riders. I admire the Knight Riders franchise not only for being very successful in the IPL and globally in T20 leagues, but also for the way it is run in a very professional manner," said Arun.
