Kieron Pollard may be in the middle of his least productive IPL campaign, but according to former West Indies fast bowler Ian Bishop, there could be more to come if the 35-year-old is open to a bit of tinkering.
West Indian all-rounder Kieron Pollard has been a key part of the Mumbai Indians as they have won the Indian Premier League (IPL) title five times.
In the IPL 2022, however, the 35-year-old battled for form with bat and ball in what was a memorable season for the Rohit Sharma-led side.
"Pollard himself needs to reinvent his game, however he chooses to do so, because we hope he still has a future ahead of him," Bishop said  T20 Time: Out. "People say he's washed up, I won't go there. I think he's a player who can reinvent himself."
After 11 games in the 2022 IPL, Pollard is on 144 runs with a 14.40 average and a 107.46 batting average -- his lowest batting average in an IPL season. The only previous instance of Pollard ending a season batting under 130 was more than a decade ago, in 2011. Having been a key cog in the Mumbai machinery since 2010 - and instrumental in each of his five IPLs -Title wins contributed – Pollard had the team's support even as he endured a difficult season.
"Yes, they hold on to a great player and are loyal to him. We must have long memories - if I say we in the media; fans, at least some fans, have short memories," said Bishop. “You look at Pollard's numbers when Mumbai won the championships: 400 runs [420] in 2013 at [average] 42 through 2019 and 2020 where he averaged over 30 with a batting average of sometimes between 160 and 190 [ 156.74 in 2019, 191.42 in 2020] - he was an integral part of them. As a franchise, you can't forget that, so they're giving it every chance they can."
