IPL 2022: Rohit regrets David's run-out as MI lose tense game against SRH
Sunrisers Hyderabad beat Mumbai Indians by 3 runs
The second half of the fifteenth edition of the Indian Premier League has almost reached the climax. All the ten teams have played 13 games each and there is only game to be played. Earlier, Gujarat Titans were the first team to qualify for the playoffs.
Their recent defeat came at the hands of Sunrisers Hyderabad at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. MI had a chance to seal the deal but the lost the game by a whisker of 3 runs at their den.
SRH batted first and posted 193/6 in 20 overs. Rahul Tripathi scored 76 off 44 balls with the help of 9 boundaries and 3 sixes. On the contrary, Ramandeep Singh registered 3/20 in 3 overs for MI.
In reply, MI tried their best to chase down the target but could end up with 190/7 in 20 overs. Tim David was the standout performer in the run-chase. Had it not been for his run-out, MI would have surely sailed over the ropes.
Rohit Sharma rues Tim David's run-out after the game
Rohit regretted Tim David's run-out at the post-match presentation. David scored 46 off just 18 balls including 3 fours and 4 maximums at a strike-rate of 255.56 before he was run out by T Natarajan in the last ball of the 19th over.
"Till about the second last over I thought we had it. Unfortunate runout there of Tim David. We thought we were very much in the game till that runout. You would back yourself to get even 19 off the final over. Credit to Sunrisers, they held their nerve pretty well at the back end.
"We wanted to try a few things keeping one eye on the future. We wanted certain guys to bowl under pressure in certain situations of the game but I thought they batted pretty well to get 193. The way we pulled things back at the end was very good. We weren't consistent up front with the ball. We came pretty close with the bat but couldn't finish off," MI captain said at the post-match presentation.
