IPL in place of T20 World Cup!
All sports events are closed in the coronavirus epidemic. The fate of this year’s Indian Premier League (IPL) hangs between them. It was supposed to begin on March 29. But it has stalled until April 15.
Right now, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has an alternative fixtures in next October-November. Of course, this is possible only if the International Cricket Council (ICC) announces the postponement of the Twenty20 World Cup.
This year, the T20 World Cup in Australia is expected to be held from October 18 to November 15. That possibility is now uncertain because of coronavirus. A BCCI official told ‘The Times of India’: “Right now all the borders are in lockdown. Australia is likely to remain in lockdown for 6 months. The situation may change as the situation improves. The United Kingdom can follow the same trend.”
BCCI is worried about the lockdown situation at the moment. Depending on which side the situation is set. Because the international border is currently closed, “We really want to understand what the government decides on the international border. In such a scenario, October-November is a safe index. Again, it is also clashing with the Twenty20 World Cup.”
In such a case, if the ICC suspends the tournament, then they will consider making the IPL at field at that time. But in this case too many calculations have to be made,
“If the ICC decides to postpone the T20 World Cup. Then we can think of the October-November window. But if you want to do so, then you have to think about whether the coronavirus infection has stopped. Then everything has to be under human control. In short, a lot of calculations have to be done.”
Again, the official also reminded, “The last step of the ICC can be to take the World Cup in 2022. Because the window is not empty in 2021. But it would not be right to think of anything like that right now.”
