The mega auction of VIVO Indian Premier League 2018 will be held on January 27 and 28 in Bengaluru. The auction will be held when India will play the final Test against South Africa.
The players list for the auction will be finalised on January 18, nine days before the auction starts. According to ESPNcricinfo, the eight teams are requested to submit their list of retained players by 4th January.
A salary cap of Indian Rupees 80 crore (US$12.4 million approx.) has been set for every team, which has increased by 14 crore from 2017 edition. Teams will have to spend 75% (INR 60 crore) of it.
A team can retain maximum of five players. Three of them can be retained before the auction. In the right-to-match cards system, maximum of three can be retained. RTM gives opportunity to teams to get back a player by matching the highest-bid done by another team. This will be held when the bidding is over.
There is another restrictions of player retention. A maximum of three capped Indian players, two overseas players and two uncapped Indian players can be retained.
The 11th edition of IPL will begin on April 4 and will end on May 31. Two-time winners Chennai Super Kings and inaugural IPL champions Rajasthan Royals will replace Rising Pune Supergiant and Gujarat Lions after two-year suspension.
Mumbai Indians are the defending champions, having won the title for the record third time by beating Pune in 2017 Final.
