IPL: Royals put Sunrisers’ play-off chances at risk
Ever since appointing Steven Smith as the caption, Rajasthan Royals seems to have got their collective rhythm back. In their last match, they spoiled KKR’s party at Eden Gardens and now they have outsmarted Sunrisers Hyderabad at home venue, also putting their play-off chances at risk.
CSK became the first team to officially qualify for playoffs after Rajasthan Royals beat Sunrisers. Rajasthan Royals aced the run-chase with 5 balls to spare as they beat Sunrisers by 7 wickets. Sunrisers now have more defeats (6) than the number of wins (5). They are now under searing pressure as they now need to react as soon as possible.
Apart from David Warner, no other batsman tried to be consistent for Sunrisers. Warner was the second top scorer in the match behind Manish Pandey’s candid half-century. Warner also became the first player to score 600+ runs in this IPL. This goes to show why he is one of the consistent batsmen in IPL.
It was because Manish Pandey and David Warner, Sunrisers managed to put a decent total. But considering the fact that they have some of the best bowlers in their ranks, they had the cutting edge to mount pressure on Royals but there was a plot twist.
Royals dominated the bowlers through and through and thanks to opening foundation stone laid by Ajinkya Rahane and Liam Livingstone for their 78-run stand. Sanju Samson too played well and remained not out till the end as he missed a half-century by just 2 runs. He was the team’s top-scorer.
Royals take on Royal Challengers Bangalore at M Chinnaswamy Stadium on April 30. This RCB tie will be the last game for Steven Smith as he will fly to Australia for national duties and to begin preparations for World Cup. Sunrisers Hyderabad will take on Kings XI Punjab on April 29 at Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium, Hyderabad.
