Irfan's record breaking spell fails to save Patriots at Bridgetown

Mohammad Irfan ruled over the St. Kitts and Nevis Patriots’ batsmen but Brandon King overshadowed the Pakistani pacers’ superlative effort, guiding his team to mark a win the sixteenth match of the Caribbean Premier League 2018 against Barbados Tridents at Bridgetown on Saturday.

Carrying a bamboozling economy rate of 0.25, the lanky Pakistani fast bowler quietly amused the watchers of the match between St. Kitts and Nevis Patriots and Barbados Tridents, giving a lee way of only a single run all through his four overs of bowling. He quoted three maidens and came along with a couple of top wickets that of both openers of the Patriots’ Chris Gayle and Evin Lewis.

But as soon as they got rid of Irfan, St. Kitts and Nevis Patriots briskly run over the winning total – the bulk of the part was achieved by Brandon King, the 23 year old from Jamaica, who tip toed his maiden CPL half century, facilitated his team to get over the short total made by the Barbados Tridents after being sent into bat first.

Beside his name, Irfan scribbled the most economical four over spell in the history of T20 cricket.

Brandon’s half century ended at 60, featuring 4 fours and one more to add with that in the tally of sixes playing 49 deliveries.

Ben Cutting and Tom Cooper took the responsibility away from King before the last four overs of the match, reached the target with seven balls to spare, thus pocketed a total of 6 points in five matches to be in the second position of the point table.
Barbados Trident’s calculative opening foundation between Dwayne Smith and Martin Guptill was ruined by Ben Cutting just before half way through the match as Cutting cut both of them in consecutive deliveries in the eighth over breaking the 39 run stand.

Promoted himself to one down, skipper Jason Holder hold the innings for long, albeit he was not that successful to accelerate the innings.

Striking four fours and three sixes, Holder, like Brandon King later, registered his maiden CPL half century. The 35 ball 54 was assisted by Shai Hope, figuring a 24 ball 26. Holder and Shai beat Nepalese teen star Sandeep Lamicchane for 17 runs in 12th over.
