It doesn’t hurt much when you’re on the top of table: Dhoni after MI loss
Chennai Super Kings (CSK) captain MS Dhoni said that the main difference was the execution and dropped catches at crucial moment for their loss against Mumbai Indians (MI) on Saturday.
MI pulled off a sensational four-wicket win over CSK at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi with some otherworldly power-hitting from West Indies batsman Kieron Pollard.
Chasing the target of 219 set by CSK, it looked unlikely that MI would chase it down despite good start as they were at 81-3 after 10 overs. But, they gave it everything from the outset and grabbed the unbelievable win. Pollard alone won the match for his team smashing an unbeaten innings of 87 runs off just 34 balls with 6 fours and 8 sixes.
On many occasions, CSK fielders rushed in to attack the ball to get a catch instead of hanging back and ended up giving away fours. One of the best fielders in the team, Faf du Plessis dropped match-winner Pollard’s catch when he’s batting at 70. However, Dhoni wasn’t too sad as they’re still on the top of the points table.
“I think it was a brilliant wicket and I feel the difference between the two sides was the execution – how off we were. Not trying to be too tough on bowlers, but catches do help. I felt we dropped catches at the crucial point. It doesn’t hurt much when you’re on the top of the table,” Dhoni said after the match.
“If you look at how it really went, we were very off-target and against good batters who hit hard, it’s important to execute the plans. Even if you don’t get hit for one or two sixes, in the 20th over that can win you the game. It hurts but the spirits will be up,” the CSK skipper added.
CSK will face Rajasthan Royals (RR) in their next match on May 5 at the same venue.
