‘It is crucial to have cricket in the Olympics’
Former Pakistan cricketer Ramiz Raja has urged the International Cricket Council (ICC) to move quickly to try to get cricket included for the 2024 Olympics, which will be staged in either Los Angeles or Paris.
Raja, a member of the influential MCC world cricket committee, has expressed his view to the media after the committee’s latest meeting.
“It is crucial to have cricket in the Olympics because the game will be introduced to many new parts of the world,” said Ramiz.
He also said that the ICC have to present a unified front from cricket that they want to be included in the Games. “But for that to happen, we have to present a unified front from cricket that we want to be included in the Games.”
He further added, “Los Angeles would be perfect — I played cricket there and you’d get massive crowds.”
Meanwhile, retired English first-class cricketer Mike Brearley who captained Cambridge University, added that it would also be a massive boost to cricket in China as the Chinese government would inject huge funds if they had an Olympic team.
