It’s a great opportunity for me to represent national team again: Imrul
Bangladesh opener Imrul Kayes has been recalled into Bangladesh preliminary squad for the three-match home ODI series against Sri Lanka scheduled in late May after almost two and a half years. He last played an ODI during the 2018 West Indies series at home.
The left-handed batsman thanked the selectors to give him the chance to play for the national team again and he’s seeing this as a big opportunity to represent the national team in near future.
Imrul had been in the discussion for the last few series of Bangladesh as he dropped from the squad every time. He himself expressed his frustration.
“Thanks (to the selectors) that I have been called up to the preliminary squad again. It’s definitely an inspiration for me. Because if you are out of the national team, if you are out of the squad, you can’t actually be mentally prepared to play for the national team. It’s is a great opportunity for me to think anew. And I can prepare myself that way. I can work with my lackings. I think it’s a great opportunity for me to represent the national team again,” he said.
“It feels worse being out of the national team. I miss that place when I watch a national team match. Even then I would say that it is good for the player to miss some time, a lot can be learned from there, with one’s own mistakes, what went wrong. And I never really felt like I was out of the national team. I always enjoy the dressing room, I always do the practice I need, the hard work I need. I never thought I would be out of the national team. I think I’m with the national team, maybe I’ll come back if I can perform,” the 34-year old Imrul added.
