‘It’s scary how Hashim scores’, says de Villiers

The way Sri Lanka lost the match against South Africa is nothing to be noted down for Proteas skipper AB de Villiers, for it is the fifth time in the year, Lankans have been seized by the same opponent, what astonished South African skipper is the way Hashim Amla is mounting runs in his short career until to date.

“It’s scary, the amount of runs Hashim has piled on in his short career, hopefully many more to come” – de Villiers said after Amla stood up with his 25th one day international hundred on Saturday.

With that, Hashim Amla became the fastest batsman in ODI history to reach 25 ton. He touched the milestone in 151 innings. The previous record was of Virat Kohli’s who did the job in 162 innings. Hashim Amla is also the fastest to score 2000, 3000, 4000, 5000, 6000 and 7000 runs respectively in ODI cricket.

“It was a difficult situation to bring in Tahir late, it was just a feeling I got, and there was no set plan. A little breeze, I had a little chat with him and I just had a good feeling, when I brought him on” – de Villiers said.

All-time favorite South Africa, in their first match of ICC Champions Trophy 2017, defeated Sri Lanka by 96 runs.
