Jadeja is my favourite player in the world: Agar
After becoming the second Australian to grab a hat-trick as well as five-wicket haul in the 20-over format, Australian spinner Ashton Agar said he aspires to become like Indian spinner Ravindra Jadeja.
Agar showcased brilliant performance with the ball in the opening of the three-match T20I series between South Africa and Australia in Johannesburg on Friday, picking up 5-24 to lead a rampant Australia to a thumping 107-run win.
This is the best figure by any Australian in this format. Besides the left-arm spinner is just the second Australian after Brett Lee in 2007 to deliver a hat-trick in a T20 international.
After the match, Agar shared how a conversation with Jadeja inspired his match-winning hat-trick in South Africa.
“I had a wonderful chat with Ravindra Jadeja after the India series. He’s my favourite player in the world – I want to play cricket like he does. He’s an absolute rockstar: smacks them, gun fielder, and spins the ball. But it’s just his presence when he’s out there, watching his confidence… just talking to him about spin bowling, keep trying to spin the ball. When he’s batting he has a really positive attitude, and he takes that attitude into the field as well,” he said.
However, Jadeja is not the only person Agar took inspiration from, “I was pretty inspired by talking to him [Jadeja]. And I’ve got good people around me: I’ve got a wonderful fiancée – she’s very supportive, so I’m really lucky – and a great family. They’re able to keep me really level.”
