Jamaica Tallawahs top the point table ending their three match losing streak with a 21 run victory against St. Lucia Stars.

Jamaica maintain dominance over Patriots

On Saturday, at the Darren Sammy National Cricket Stadium in Gros Islet in St. Lucia, Tallawahs crossed 200 run mark batting first, while restricted the home team to 183.

Tallawahs powered the power play taking 54 runs but lost both openers after that.

The Jamaica Tallawahs’ subtotal of 204 runs was engrossed especially by the century stand between Kenner Lewis and Rovman Powell who took the total to 156 from 56 for 2 in the following 10 overs.

Powell contributed greater half in the partnership, reached in his first fifty of the season; his 61 came from 29 deliveries.

Jamaica went passed two hundred runs in the aggression of David Miller; he smacked three over boundaries into the gallery taking the score to cross the competitive level mark in T20s.

St. Lucia Stars began with discouraging disaster losing both openers within 8 runs.

Disgraced former Aussie vice-captain David Warner fought back with the company of Kieron Pollard. Both of them reached near the half century mark before Zampa broke the partnership taking the wicket of his fellow countryman Warner when he was eight runs short of the half century.

26 balls he played to reach 42 striking 4 fours and 2 sixes. Pollard was also four runs away of a fifty when he lost his wicket to a brilliant Russell Yorker.

St. Lucia Stars needed a gruesome 26 runs in last six balls proved too far away as Oshane Thomas conceded only four in the last over.

The winning captain Andre Russell got pleased in team’s effort, said, “We have been struggling for the last three games but I always believed in ourselves. Believe in our guys. I think when you have world class players, it’s a big challenge. We have a long batting, guys like Rovman got the chance tonight. We got to see how good Miller is. The ball was coming on and getting 200 on the board was a good effort.”

While Kieron Pollard, the opposition skipper said, “We could have bowled a bit better I feel. Still think that 200 was gettable on this track. Wickets in the powerplay pushed us back. Russell took my wicket, they bowled well and deserved to be on the winning side. You have different bowlers, you try different options. You back your more experienced bowlers to do the job for you but it didn’t work out for us today. Hopefully we win a few games and let’s see where it takes us.”
