Jamieson denies to bowl with Dukes ball to Kohli
Royal Challengers Bangalore all-rounder Dan Christian made the headlines recently when he shared a hilarious story involving the likes of his team captain Virat Kohli and lanky pacer Kyle Jamieson. The incident had transpired during the first week of their franchise training for the 14th edition of the Indian Premier League.
The Australian T20 batsman Christian disclosed a story of the time when Indian captain Kohli had asked Jamieson to bowl to him in the nets with the duke balls. Interestingly, the New Zealand pacer refused it.
To make things clear, right after the conclusion of the IPL, Kohli-led Team India will lock horns with Kane Williamson-led New Zealand in the ICC World Test Championship final 2021 at the Hampshire Bowl in Southampton.
Kohli and Jamieson will represent their respective nations and the game will most probably be played with a duke ball. It is cognisance of the fact that the duke ball is quite tough to face because of its unique seam position and moreover, it is a tad darker share of red colour and the red-leather behaves in an unusual manner when compared to the Kookaburra and SG balls.
For the unversed, the duke ball is used in England and the West Indies, whereas in India, the SG ball is used while the majority of the rest of the nations use Kookaburra balls. So, playing cricket in England and getting accustomed to the conditions is a very challenging thing.
Now, coming back to the hilarious incident between Kohli and Jamieson, Christian revealed it during an interaction with The Grade Cricketer’s YouTube channel. “Pretty cagey from Virat actually, right in the first week we were here. The three of us were sitting down after the nets and these two were talking about Test cricket. Virat said: ‘So Jamie (Kyle Jamieson) have you bowled much with the Dukes ball?’ and they are talking about that stuff,” Christian said.
Christian further adds, “Jamie says: ‘Yeah, I have a couple of them here, I will have a bowl leading in before I go over there’ and Virat says ‘Oh, if you want to have a bowl against me in the nets, I am more than happy to face’.
“Jamie was like, ‘No chance I am going to ball at you!’ He would have looked at his release point and everything that he does with the Dukes ball!” Christian added as the two cricketers giggled.
