Jofra Archer and Jasprit Bumrah are same type of bowlers: Faf Du Plessis

Former South Africa skipper Faf du Plessis,  heaped praise on Indian pacer Jasprit Bumrah for his style of bowling. The protea batsman confessed that it was hard for the Proteas in the 2018 Test series against India because of Bumrah’s tight bowling.

Jasprit Bumrah picked up 14 wickets in 112.1 overs with best figures of five for 54 in the same series. Du Plessis said that he wished that Bumrah would not make his debut in the test format. He compared Bumrah with England fast bowler Jofra Archer.

“Bumrah made his debut in that Test series. We were actually hoping that he doesn’t make his debut. Because I knew how good he was. He has got that beautiful wrist that is quick on you, almost like Archer. They are similar type bowlers. Their fast bowlers were really good,” Faf told on the Sony Ten Pitstop Show.

South Africa managed to take an unassailable 2-0 lead in the series after winning the first two Tests in Cape Town and Centurion. India turned back In the final Test at the Wanderers in Johannesburg and won the last match by 63 runs.

“So that series was fought on an even keel all the time. That was one of the best series to be involved in, obviously we won it 2-1. India was a proper powerful team then as well,” he stated.

Du Plessis also admitted that the Indian pace attack gave the Proteas quite some nightmares before the start of the series as they have got Bumrah , Ishant Sharma, Mohammad Shami.

“We beat the Indian Test team 2-1 but it was a great Test series. That was one of the best series I have been involved in. Because India for the first time had a pace attack that could take on South Africa in South Africa and Australia, that is why they were so successful,” du Plessis added.
