The Barbados-born fast bowler was included in the 15-man squad announced on the back of appearing in mere three one-day internationals, setting aside David Willey.

“I’d quite like to get Virat Kohli out because I wasn’t able to in the IPL,”

Archer told Sky Sports.

“Chris Gayle as well,”

added Archer.

England will face India on June 30 at Edgbaston.

Archer took three wickets in three matches he played against Pakistan but he added a new dimension in English bowling attack owing to his blistering speed of 90mph.

The Rajasthan Royals recruit believes the time he has spent in the IPL has been good preparation for the World Cup despite lacking in international experience.

“I think I probably have a bigger advantage over some of the other guys in our team,” he said.

“We play (these guys) twice a (season) in the IPL, so you know their weaknesses, you know their strengths, you know if they can’t run between the wickets… it gets you an extra bit of inside information,” Archer said.

He added, “To be honest, I think international cricket is probably the same intensity as the IPL. I think the only thing that changes is the amount of overs (the IPL is a Twenty20 competition).”

Therefore, the ambitious youngster has not ruled out a chance of making through England’s Ashes squad after the World Cup but said he is all focused upon the upcoming mega event.

‘If they do (pick him) I would be over the moon,’ Archer said. ‘But right now I’ve got a World Cup to think about.

‘I’ve only just gotten in the side and I don’t expect to waltz into the Test side. If selected I will work my butt off but if not, I will go back to Sussex and put in the performances,” he said.
