Jonty Rhodes picks his 7 favourite fielders of all time
It is no surprise Jonty Rhodes is one of the most admired and widely respected cricketers across the cricketing world. Former Proteas cricketer is praised as the best fielder in his generation and has also set an incredible example for young cricketers to follow suit.
Jonty Rhodes earned praises for his impressive fielding skills and his contribution to South African cricket. He is known for his diving run-outs and sensational catches. The best moment of his career came when the Proteas star ran Pakistan’s Inzamam-ul-Haq out during the 1992 World Cup tournament.
Jonty has featured in 52 Tests and 245 ODI games, in which the right-hander scored 2532 and 5935 runs. He has by far taken 139 international catches. Jonty is placed second among the fielders who affected most run-outs in international cricket.
In a career spanning 297 matches, Jonty affected 68 run-outs. Former Australia skipper Ricky Ponting tops the list with 80 run-outs to his name.
After calling it quits from international cricket, Jonty Rhodes now helps various teams as a fielding coach. He worked with the IPL franchise Mumbai Indians (MI) for nine seasons. In the forthcoming edition of the Indian Premier League, the 50-year-old Jonty will join Kings XI Punjab.
Being regarded as the best in the game of cricket, Jonty was recently asked about his favourite fielder by a Twitter user, and the former South Africa star named his seven favourite fielders of all time.
