Jos Buttler helps England qualify for Semis

It was a do or die game for both England and Sri Lanka in Group 1 match of Super Ten stage of ICC World T20 2016. The match ended in a thriller as England won by 10 runs. England qualify for the Semi Finals in World T20 for the second time.

England qualified for semis

Sri Lanka captain Angelo Mathews won the toss and chose to bowl first in Delhi. England opener Alex Hales got out in the 2nd over. England were 4/1 in 1.4 overs. Jason Roy and Joe Root made a 61 run partnership. Root scored 25 runs. Roy also got out soon scoring 42 off 39 balls including 3 fours and 2 sixes.

England were 88/3 in 12.5 overs. Then captain Eoin Morgan and Jos Buttler stood up against the Lankan attack. They put on 74 runs in the 4th wicket partnership. Morgan contributed 22 runs. Buttles brought up his 4th T20I fifty. He scored and an unbeaten 66 from 37 deliveries hitting 8 fours and 2 big sixes. England scored 171/5 in 20 overs. Jeffrey Vandersay picked up 2 wickets for Sri Lanka. Rangana Herath picked the other one.

Chasing 172 Sri Lanka lost too many early wickets which put them on back foot. They lost 4 wickets for 15 runs in 3 overs. Angelo Mathews and Chamara Kapugedera put on a partnership of 80 runs which gave the Lankans some hope. This is the record 5th wicket partnetship for Sri Lanka in T20Is. Kapugedera scored important 30 runs.

Captain Mathews brought up his 4th T20I fifty. He scored 73* from 54 deliveries hitting 3 fours and 5 sixes. He was the man who brought Sri Lanka back into the game. Thisara Perera (20) and Dasun Shanaka (15) contributed for him. But England had the last laugh. Jordan picked up 4 crucial wickets for England. They are into the Semis along with West Indies and New Zealand.
