Kapil Dev reveals the best pace attack in the world
Usually, when the experts talk about the Indian cricket team, the first thing that they wish to talk is the team’s batting brigade. However, former Indian captain Kapil Dev said that the current set of bowlers have revolutionised the scope of Indian cricket to a whole new level in the last 4-5 years.
The former all-rounder reckons that this is the best ever Indian pace attack. “Aisa pace attack humne dekha nahi tha, socha bhi nahi tha (we have not seen such a pace attack, nor did we think about it). Without any doubt, the fast bowlers have changed the face of Indian cricket in the last four-five years,” Kapil said during the sidelines of a promotional event.
In the opening Test against South Africa in Visakhapatnam, Mohammed Shami upped his ante and ripped through the defences of Proteas’ batting line-up in the 2nd innings as he chipped in with fantastic bowling figures of 5/35.
Even after this good performance, Shami doesn’t find himself in the top 10 of the ICC Test bowlers’ rankings. However, he will only hope to get better in the games to come to feature himself in the list.
“No issues about that (not being in the top 10). How effective he (Shami) has been for the team is more important. Great to see him doing well and that’s the bottom line,” Kapil added in a statement.
“I am proud of the quality of Indian fast bowlers. They have come in numbers,” Kapil Dev who has seen a good evolution in Indian bowling attack said.
The 1983-World Cup winning skipper also credited Indian Premier League (IPL) for giving many young pacers a perfect platform to showcase their talent.
“It takes time to develop a pace attack. It feels good to witness the amount of cricket that is being played now. Because of the IPL, so many fast bowlers have got an opportunity,” he said.
