Karachi Test: Kumara, Embuldeniya demolish Pakistan on day one
Sri Lanka restricted Pakistan for a paltry 191 runs in their first innings on day one of the ongoing second Test at the National Stadium in Karachi.
In reply, Sri Lanka were trailing by 127 runs as they ended the day scoring 64 runs losing 3 wickets.
The final session of the day witnessed falling eight wickets; the visitors have the slight edge with Angelo Mathews and Lasith Embuldeniya will start the second day with scores of 8 and 3 respectively.
Pakistan skipper Azhar Ali won the toss and elected to bat first. The decision of playing spinner Lasith Embuldeniya in place of injured pacer Kasun Rajitha paid dividends for Sri Lanka. In his just fifth Test appearance, Embuldeniya stole the limelight rattling Pakistan’s middle order taking 4 wickets.
The 23-year old’s subtle variations bamboozled Pakistan; the hosts’ batsman were in disarray against a joint pace-spin attack as Lahiru Kumara also assaulted the Pakistani batsmen from the other end.
Sri Lankan dominance in the day started with pacer Vishwa Fernando grabbing two wickets in one over. having ripped of Shan Masood and Azhar Ali in the seventh over of the innings.
Two of the home team batsman Asad Shafiq and Babar Azam crossed their respective half centuries with Shafiq topping the mark scoring 126 ball 63.
Kumara ended with a bowling figure of 4 for 49.
The first Test match between these two countries ended in a draw in Rawalpindi.
23-year old Lasith Embuldeniya has been impressive so far in his short international career. 👏
Best spinner in the country at the moment?
