Karthik hands over captaincy to Eoin Morgan

England’s ODI captain Eoin Morgan will lead Kolkata Knight Riders for the rest of the games in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL).

Morgan new captain
Better late than never. That’s what Kolkata Knight Riders’ think tank might have on their point as they hand over the captaincy to Eoin Morgan despite the tournament is already half done. They are currently fourth in the points table after playing seven games. They have won four out of it under Karthik’s leadership.

Venky Mysore, the CEO of Kolkata Knight Riders confirmed the news on Friday. He said that he was surprised by the decision of Karthik, but also mentioned the fact that he respects his decision to put the team first.

“We are fortunate to have leaders such as DK, who has always put the team first. It takes a lot of courage for someone like him to take a decision such as this. While we were surprised by his decision, we are respectful of his wishes,” he said.

Mysore also said that he is excited to see the World Cup-winning captain leading his side. In the end, he had words full of praise for both the captains.

“We are also fortunate that Eoin Morgan, the 2019 World Cup-winning captain, who has been the vice-captain, is willing to lead the side going forward. DK and Eoin have worked brilliantly together during this tournament and although Eoin takes over as captain, this is effectively a role swap and we expect that this transition will work in a seamless manner,” he concluded.
