Kent Spitfires re-sign Proteas’ pacer for T20 Blast
Kent Spitfires franchise took a decisive step to re-sign South African pacer Hardus Viljoen for this year’s T20 Blast competition.
The 30-year-old Proteas fast bowler who spiced it up for the county as an overseas player in the year 2016, now has Kolpak status.
He spent the last 2 years with Derbyshire franchise but left by mutual consent in January.
Viljoen averages 25.02 with the ball in T20 leagues globally and also plied his trade for Kings XI Punjab in this year’s IPL.
The bowler himself admitted that he played some of the best cricket in his career especially when he was at Kent in 2016. “I played some of the best cricket of my career when I was at Kent in 2016,” he added.
Viljoen is looking forward to making his presence count when he will get the much-needed backing and cheers from the passionate fans this time around.
“I’m excited to have the opportunity to play in front of the passionate supporters here again this season.”
Kent director of cricket Paul Downton said: “Hardus’ skills and experience give us an extra dimension with the ball and I feel that we have a very competitive bowling attack for this competition.”
In case you didn’t know, New Zealand fast bowler Adam Milne and Afghanistan all-rounder Mohammad Nabi are Kent’s overseas players for the Blast.
