Kings XI negotiating to trade Ashwin before IPL 2020
Ravichandran Ashwin hasn’t been having a great time in the last couple of months. He was axed from the team set-up in the wake of the ICC Champions Trophy 2017. To make things even worse, the experienced off-spinner was also dropped from the playing XI in the ongoing game against the West Indies.
Now again, bad news looms large over him as the IPL franchise Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) hasn’t taken a liking to Ravi Ashwin’s performance as a captain.
In the last two years where he skippered the team, Ashwin failed to get the results that the team wanted. Despite the fact that his team was in a good position, they couldn’t tilt the game towards their end consistently.
If speculations in the Mumbai Mirror are to be believed, he will not just be sacked from captaincy. The franchise is now looking to trade him with some other team before the next season starts.
It has been learnt that Delhi Capitals have shown interest in roping Ravichandran Ashwin. KXIP franchise is trying to negotiate with a couple of other franchises to trade him. This deal is expected to be closed in a week’s time when the franchise board meets again.
Besides Delhi Capitals (DC), Rajasthan Royals (RR) is the other team which has shown great interest in acquiring his services.
The 32-year-old veteran is not likely to lose financially considering the fact that he was purchased for INR 7.6 crores in the auction.
Rajasthan Royals might trade Krishnappa Gowtham for Ravi Ashwin in case if the deal is finalised. If this happens, then the off-spinner will be playing under Steve Smith’s leadership.
In the 28 matches that Ashwin has played for KXIP, he picked up 25 wickets. In his place, the franchise is planning to hand over the leadership to KL Rahul.
Moreover, the Delhi Capitals franchise are in consultation with the Rajasthan Royals to trade Ajinkya Rahane.
