Kings XI Punjab’s physio reveals the fitness secret of Chris Gayle
While we watch Christopher Henry Gayle passionately ruling the world with the willow, we would supposedly wonder what makes him move so fast in this near about 40 years of age?
Well, here is the answer – precisely a secret revealed by the Kings XI Punjab physio Brett Harrop. Unlike other fittest cricketers, Gayle is not the one hitting in the gym, rather than he hits in the yoga floor!
“He has to spend more time in terms of recovery and flexibility in getting himself ready for games. We work keeping in mind his range of movement and mobility side of things like stretching and yoga exercises to keep the mobility going. He also does have to maintain a certain amount of strength and it is also individualized,” Brett Haroop said.
Explaining the terms how a naturally powerful athlete like Gayle maintains his great mobility through each season and each game, the Kings XI Punjab physiotherapist explained,
“So, for someone like Chris who is naturally strong and on the flip-side also quite a stiff athlete — the reason why he gets a lot of power — his particular area of focus is maintaining the range of movement. He has the natural strength. He is not trying to develop greater strength as it isn’t a long-term plan with him. It is about getting through each game and season.”
At the age of 39 years and 197 days, Gayle is still one of the mainstream claims in every franchise based leagues around the globe.
