Kirsten to assist BCB finding new coach

With Gary Kirsten being confirmed as Bangladesh’s consultant, his first duty will be to help Bangladesh Cricket Board choose a new head coach.

Kirsten to assist BCB finding new coach

BCB boss Nazmul Hassan Papon informed on Monday that the South African is looking at the three candidates for the post. Kirsten, currently Royal Challengers Bangalore’s batting coach, is expected to land in Dhaka next week. But that depends whether RCB qualify for the playoffs or not.

“[Kirsten] is making his observations about what kind of coach Bangladesh needs. He is speaking to me, the players and the coaching staff. We will match our list of coaches with his, after which we will finalise everything. It will be easier for us,” said Papon.

“We felt that it is best to consult with an expert before deciding on a coach. You will get to know something important by this month. Kirsten wants to know what type of coach we are seeking. He has already started working for us.”

The BCB president has also told that they are not going to get a new head coach before the Afghanistan series, whom Bangladesh will play three T20Is in Dehradun. At the moment, BCB is hopeful of getting a coach before Windies tour.

“It is impossible to have a head coach before the Afghanistan series. But we are hopeful that we will have appointed someone before the Windies series.

“We nearly finalised someone but in the last minute he said that his family wasn’t agreeing with the move. So we cannot say anything until someone is here,” he added.

Bangladesh have attempted Andy Flower, Tom Moody, Mahela Jayawardene, Kumar Sangakkara, Geoff Marsh and Paul Farbrace for the post and all rejected. While Phil Simmons and Richard Pybus gave their interviews to BCB, they have been roped by Afghanistan and Windies respectively.
