Kohli backs Ashwin and Jadeja as their first choice spinners at home in test

India captain Virat Kohli ensures that Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja are their first choice spinners in the test cricket in the home condition. He confirmed that on Wednesday, October 9 ahead of their second test against South Africa which is just one day away.

Recently India had been played with only one frontline spinner against West Indies in their last series in August. But when it comes to play with two spinners at home, it’s always been the deadly duo of Ashwin-Jadeja in test cricket for India. Though Ashwin was overlooked for sometimes in the last year and spinner Kuldeep Yadav filled up that vacant place, Ashwin still remains the first choice spinner for India at home in the test cricket.

That’s why Kuldeep had been dropped from the squad despite he took five wickets in his last test against Australia earlier this year. “No one is self-centered and everybody is contemplating what I can accomplish for the team. It’s the same about Kuldeep. He understands that in India, Ashwin and Jadeja will be our first choices since they give us a great deal more with the bat too,” Kohli said.

“So for us, it’s all about maintaining the best balance as team and it is totally combination based,” he added.

India’s one of the best spinner in the history of test cricket Ravichandran Ashwin had taken no time to show his worth in his return to the longest format of the cricket as he took 8 wickets (7 wickets in the first innings) in the first test against South Africa. It had been his first test match since December 2018.
