Kohli became captain of India because of Dhoni

Virat Kohli has teamed up with MS Dhoni to lead the Indian team. When Dhoni was the captain, Kohli was the vice-captain. Later, the responsibility of the captain fell on his shoulders.

The current captain of the Indian team said that he has learned captaincy from Dhoni. Kohli, one of the best batsmen and captains of cricket at the time, said this on Instagram Live with Ravichandran Ashwin.

“I have never wanted to be a captain,” he said.

“I used to talk to Dhoni all the time in the match. Although he did not pay attention to some issues, he used to discuss many issues with me. I think Dhoni saw confidence in me. After a long observation, I saw leadership qualities in me.”

India have been playing great under Kohli in recent times. Both in batting and captaincy, Kohli is constantly surpassing himself in all aspects. India, which has been successful in T20 and ODIs, is now showing success in Tests as well. Cricket experts said that Kohli’s leadership qualities bring much success for India. Kohli openly acknowledged Dhoni’s contribution to maturity in leadership, saying, “Being close to Dhoni has been good for me as a captain. I learned a lot from him. I made myself for the captaincy slowly.”

Dhoni had earlier told him that the button of Dhoni’s captaincy would be in Kohli’s hands, Kohli said, “My previous captain (Dhoni) used to give me a lot of responsibilities. I was told you were the next leader. This foundation has been laid in six-seven years.”
