Sources have confirmed that four Indian names were sent to the BCB (Bangladesh Cricket Board). The names are: Indian captain Virat Kohli, opener Shikhar Dhawan, pacer Mohammed Shami and left-arm chinaman spinner Kuldeep Yadav.
The sources have learnt that BCCI President Sourav Ganguly checked on the players’ workload before sending the names.
“Ganguly sent in the names to the BCB after we checked on the availability of the players. Kohli, Shami, Dhawan and Kuldeep will represent us in the Asia XI team. It has been a while since we sent the names because the Bangladesh board needed the list from the BCCI to be able to prepare the Asian squad,” the source said.
As there are already four Indians named in the squad, BCCI has confirmed there will be no Indian sharing their dressing room with Pakistanis. Pakistani players will be busy in Pakistan Super League which will end on March 22.
BCCI joint secretary Jayesh George said, “What we are aware of is that there will be no Pakistan players in the Asia XI. That is what the message is, so, there is no question of both countries coming together or picking one over the other.”
The two T20Is between Asia XI and World XI will mark the 100th birthday celebrations of Bangladesh’s father of nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. The matches will be held on 21st and 22nd March at Shere Bangla National Cricket Stadium, Mirpur.
