Kohli fails again as New Zealand close in on Test victory

Virat Kohli was dismissed for only 2 runs in the first innings of the first Test against New Zealand. India captain’s bat did not laugh in the second innings too. He got by scoring just 19 runs in the second innings.

India also finished the day trailing by 39 runs. At the end of third day, the visitors lost 4 wickets by scoring 144 runs in the second innings. In the first innings, the Indian batsmen were tested by Kyle Jamieson and Tim Southee. They both took 4 wickets in the first innings.

The second innings began on Sunday (February 23) at the Basin Reserve in Wellington, this time India were shattered by Trent Boult. Opener Prithvi Shaw (14), Cheteshwar Pujara (11) and Kohli (19) returned by Boult.

Mayank Agarwal had only fought for India a little. The Indian opener scored 58 runs with 7 fours and one six off 99 balls. Two unbeaten Indian batsmen Ajinkya Rahane (25*) and Hanuma Vihari (15*) will start the fourth day in the batting tomorrow.

Earlier, New Zealand started the third day with 216 runs for 5 wickets. However, at the beginning of the day, the hosts lost the wicket of BJ Watling (16). But after bowling, Jamieson (44) proved his talent in batting too.

Apart from Colin de Grandhomme (43), Boult scored 38 runs to give New Zealand a total of 348 runs and lead of 183 runs. Ajaz Patel was unbeaten on 4 runs.

Ishant Sharma took 5 wickets for India. Ravichandran Ashwin got 3 wickets.
