Kohli greatest ever batsman to play in ODI cricket: Clarke
Former Australia captain Micheal Clarke hails Indian captain Virat Kohli as the best ever batsman in the ODI format.
Clarke, who scored 8,643 runs in Tests and 7,981 in ODIs is regarded as one of the best batsman Australia ever produced and the man himself had words full of praise for Kohli as he sees him as the ‘Greatest batsman ever in ODI cricket.’
Clarke told PTI in an interview –
“To me, Virat Kohli is the greatest batsman to have ever played one-day cricket. I have no doubts after seeing what he has achieved for India. You have to respect Virat’s passion to win games for his country. Yes, he has aggression but no one can question his commitment, how much he has achieved. He is the greatest in ODIs.”
Kohli is currently the world’s no.1 Test and ODI batsman and recently became the first Indian captain to win a bilateral series in Australia.
Meanwhile, Clarke also praised MS Dhoni’s approach of playing in the limited overs format. Many have criticized Dhoni for his poor strike-rate, but the former Australian captain believes Dhoni knows quite well how to get the job done.
“MS knows how to react to any given situation. He has played 300 plus ODIs so he knows how to go about his job.”
When asked if Dhoni would have been as effective as he was in the third ODI against Australia if the target would have been 330 instead of 230? Clarke said –
“I think he would have played differently. It was 230 and he had a particular strategy and it would have been different if the target would have been bigger. Look at his approach in the second game in Adelaide and the third game in Melbourne. It was different.”
Clarke was named the ICC Test Player of the Year and also the ICC Cricketer of the Year in 2013.
