Kohli is the captain of sledging: Mushfiqur
India captain Virat Kohli is a run machine in all three formats- Tests (27 centuries and 22 half-centuries in 86 Tests, 7240 runs at an average of 53.62), ODIs (11,867 runs in 248 matches with 43 centuries and 58 half-centuries, average 59.33), T20Is (2,794 runs in 82 matches at 50.60 average).
He’s now the world star. Even the biggest critics agree that Virat Kohli is one of best batsmen in any of the three formats. Kohli is also above all in terms of stardom and popularity.
Did you know that the Indian captain is above all in sledging? In the words of Mushfiqur Rahim, one of the best batsmen of the world, Virat Kohli is not only the captain of the team, he is also the captain in sledging.
The topic of sledging came up in a YouTube live session. Speaking on the occasion, Mushfiqur Rahim said, “Indian cricketers do the most sledging when playing against Bangladesh in recent times. And in that sledging mission, India captain Virat Kohli led from the front!”
The question was, which country or which country’s cricketers do more sledging? Mushfiqur said in a moment, “Australia. Australians are good at sledging. They do that more.”
However, he said, Indians have been sledging with Bangladeshi cricketers in the recent past or in recent times. Mushfiqur’s idea is that it has been mainly due to Bangladesh’s good performance with India in the last few years and its loss in the Asia Cup.
Asked about sledging, the Tigers wicketkeeper said, “No one can sledge like the Australians. I have been sledged against Aussies many times.”
Mushfiqur added, “However, in recent times, especially in the last five years, the competition with India has increased a lot. There is a bone-to-bone fight. Bangladesh is not like before. Expectations have also increased due to good play. Now there is a hope that if Bangladesh plays well, they can fight with anyone. They can even beat anyone.
“In that respect, such expectations have been created against India. Not only me but many others, especially those who bat in the top order, are sledged more by the Indians. India captain Virat Kohli played a leading role in this. Not just me, he sledges everyone else.”
“We may not win regularly with India, but we have wins that still burn Indians. There are some places where India lost to Bangladesh. There are some places where Indians do more sledging against Bangladesh,” Mushfiqur said.
“Maybe he’s the captain of sledging. Virat Kohli is very good at it and does a lot,” Mushfiqur added.
Mushfiqur did not stop saying that. His interpretation is different. In his opinion, sledging is an effective medicine to crack the minds of the cricketers of the opposing team. But it also takes charisma to do that. Tough personality is required. Not everyone can do that. And so he thinks Virat Kohli is the perfect figure at work. He has a strong personality.
In Mushfiqur’s words, “To sledge, it actually needs courage and a strong personality. Virat is such a big player, sledging suits him. It’s normal for anyone with an average of more than 50 in all formats to have sledging.”
