Kohli rested for last two ODIs and T20Is against New Zealand
Indian skipper Virat Kohli has been rested for the last two ODIs and T20I series against New Zealand and Rohit Sharma will lead the side in his absence.
India are off to a winning start in their limited overs tour to New Zealand after beating the hosts by 8 wickets in the series opener at Napier. With that win India have taken a 1-0 lead in the ODI series.
After seeing India’s dominant start in the series, Board for Control of Cricket in India has decided to rest the skipper Virat Kohli for the last two ODIs od the four-match ODI series and the T20I series.
“Considering his workload in the last few months, the team management and Senior selection committee is of the view that it would be ideal for him to get adequate rest ahead of the home series against Australia,” the board said in a media statement.
Kohli has played 14 of the 15 Tests India played since the start of 2018 and leads the charts with 1345 runs. In the same period, Kohli is also the top-scorer with 1400 runs in 18 ODIs.
Nowadays BCCI is keen on the fitness of the players and making sure that players are been given enough rests according to their work loads. Virat Kohli also had some problems in his discs and the board is having an eye on it.
Earlier Bumrah has been rested for the whole New Zealand tour considering his work load. Rohit Sharma will lead the side as usual in the absence of Virat Kohli. Still there is no replacement announced for the skipper Virat Kohli.
