Kohli reveals reason behind Chahal and Kuldeep’s exclusion from T20I
Indian skipper Virat Kohli finally opened up about the exclusion of Yuzvendra Chahal and Kuldeep Yadav from the T20I side.
Kuldeep Yadav and Yuzvendra Chahal are the current spin sensations in the Indian cricket team with the white ball. They are the prime spinners for the team for the last two years and are well known as wrist twins.
But surprisingly the wrist spin duo have been dropped from the Indian T20I squad for the upcoming South Africa series as well as the previous series against West Indies. They are being replaced by Washington Sundar, Krunal Pandya, and Rahul Chahar.
Still, there was no official clarification from the team regarding the exclusion of wrist duo. Indian skipper Virat Kohli finally revealed the reason for the sudden change in the T20I side. Speaking on that Indian captain said that the main reason is the experiment of the young talents ahead of ICC World T20 2020.
“That was one of the reasons also to give opportunities to the guys who have done well in the domestic format and the T20 format and in the IPL also. So I think it’s about finding the best balance that we can as a side and not necessarily stick to one kind of combination. If all teams across the world are batting till No. 9, 10, why can’t we,” the captain explained.
As the skipper said both the wrist spinners are not good enough with the bat to have a depth in the batting line-up up to no.9 or no.10. Players like Washington Sundar, Krunal Pandya, and Rahul Chahar can give a balance to the team with the all-around ability.
“So, you need to take those calls at one stage. Bringing those guys (Chahal and Kuldeep) at one stage was also not taken well by people. Look, whatever decisions are made, are to make sure that the team has the best and strongest balance that we can have approaching the T20 World Cup that we have next year,” Kohli said in the press conference.
