Kohli-Rohit should follow Dhoni: Gautam Gambhir

In recent times, there has been a lot of discussion in Indian cricket. Many former cricketers have complained that there were not many idol cricketers in the Indian team as there were in the Indian team at the beginning of this century. Even seniors do not have the responsibility towards the youth.

Kohli-Rohit should follow Dhoni: Gautam Gambhir

Former left-arm opener Gautam Gambhir is one of those who has made this claim. He also thinks that when stars like Sachin Tendulkar, Sourav Ganguly, Rahul Dravid, Anil Kumble were in the team, it was very easy for junior cricketers to play.

Later, MS Dhoni did this. He too has always tried to give courage to junior cricketers by putting his hand on their shoulders. But now Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma have become big stars, but Gambhir thinks that this thing is not in them.

So he suggested that Kohli and Rohit learn to understand by watching Dhoni. Not only that, according to Gambhir, Dhoni is also a big contributor behind the height at which Rohit Sharma is currently standing. The former opener thinks that Rohit has reached today’s place as he has given support from the beginning.

He said, “Where Rohit Sharma is now, it is entirely because of Dhoni. You might talk about the selection committee, the team management. But if you don’t get the captain’s support, then everything is worthless. Everything is in the hands of the captain. The way Dhoni has supported Rohit for so long, I don’t think any other player has got it.”

Since Kohli and Rohit have reached today’s position with the support of seniors, Gambhir hopes that the they will always be by the young cricketers of the current generation side.

Gambhir said, “I would hope, whether Shubman Gill, Sanju Samson or the younger generation; Let them get the same kind of support. Rohit is now a senior player. He will be expected to give courage to the juniors. Rohit can be an example of how a player can be world class with proper support. I hope Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma will do the same as Dhoni did with the young players.”
