Kolkata stay alive after emphatic win
Kolkata Knight Riders stay alive for a place in the play-offs after a huge win against Kings XI Punjab in match number 52 in the Indian Premier League (IPL).
It was a do or die encounter for both the teams and Kolkata came out on top after Punjab threw a tough challenge at their den. After winning the toss, Kolkata skipper Dinesh Karthik asked Punjab to bat first.
Punjab lost both of their openers KL Rahul (2) and Chris Gayle (14) earl, but Mayank Agarwal and Nicholas Pooran repaired the early damage. Pooran missed his well-deserved half-century for only two runs, However, it was Sam Currran in the end who shocked the Knight Riders.
Coming out to bat in the death overs, Curran produced a firing knock of an unbeaten 55 off just 24 balls to power Punjab to a huge score of 183 runs.
In reply, Chris Lynn and Subhman Gill started the proceedings exceptionally well as the duo put 62 runs in the opening stand. Lynn was the first man to go after a terrific 22-ball 46 while youngster Gill produced yet another magical knock.
With 5 fours and 2 sixes, Gill played an unbeaten knock of 65* off just 49 balls and guided Kolkata all the way to the finish and kept them alive in the tournament.
