Kumble reveals reason behind Gayle not playing against SRH

Even a day before the match day, it was informed that Chris Gayle will play his first match of this year’s Indian Premier League (IPL) against Sunrisers Hyderabad.

Chris Gayle
It came in as a shocker after Kings XI Punjab announced the starting XI against Sunrisers Hyderabad and there was no Chris Gayle in the list. After losing consecutive matches, Punjab were looking to make some changes in their line-up and it was informed that Gayle is set to play his first match.

But after the toss, it was informed that Mujeeb-ur-Rahman has been picked, who is also playing his first match for Punjab this season. He had a poor game in the end as he conceded 39 runs in 4 overs without managing to pick up a wicket.

However, during Sunrisers Hyderabad’s innings, Punjab head coach Anil Kumble informed that Gayle was set to play the match tonight, but later he was left out due to sickness. Kumble also said that he is suffering from food poisoning.

“Gayle was going to play, but he is sick. He’s down with some food poisoning so last couple of days he’s not had a good time,” Kumble said during the match

Meanwhile, Kumble’s team are chasing 202 runs. After losing some quick wickets at the beginning, they are back into the game courtesy of Pooran’s blistering fifty off just 17 balls, which is the highest in the history of the tournament.

According to the latest update, Punjab need 93 from 50 balls with four wickets in hand.
