Kusal Mendis releasd on bail despite fatal accident

Sri Lanka batsman Kusal Mendis, who was involved in an accident that killed a 64-year old man has been released on bail just a day after being arrested.

The cricket world was hit with a major shock after Sri Lanka batsman Kusal Mendis was involved in a fatal accident during the early morning on Sunday. He was soon arrested after the accident and he spent a day on jail.

However, he has been released on Monday after Panadura Additional Magistrate granted Mendis’s bail on two sureties worth 1 million Sri Lankan rupees and his driving license has also been temporarily suspended by the court.

The 25-year old has promised to compensate worth 1 million to be paid to the victim’s family. The next hearing is scheduled for September 9.

Kusal was part of the Sri Lankan squad that underwent a training camp in Pallekele earlier in the week. He has played  44 Tests, 76 ODIs and 26 T20Is for Sri Lanka and has been one of the players, who contributed well in all three formats of the game so far.

Despite the bail, it is yet to be seen how the Sri Lanka board treats him after a shocking display of discipline and his place in the side for the upcoming series will also be in doubt.
