Labuschagne responds to Sachin comparison
To be compared with Indian all-time great Sachin Tendulkar, that too by the maestro himself? This is quite a rare thing to happen with anyone, and that is exactly what happened with Australia batsman Marnus Labuschagne.
Tendulkar, who holds the Test record of 15,921 runs in 200 matches, gave Labuschagne the special praises, saying he likened the Australia to his own style. And not just that, Tendulkar also said that he knew Labuschagne was special within 15 minutes of watching him.
Actuallt Labuschagne was a concussion substitute for Smith during the second Ashes Test in Lord’s in August, and Tendulkar was right there to watch the match. While the Australian made a solid 59 to help his side salvage a draw, Tendulkar saw things from a bigger perspective, that he revealed a few days back.
“I was honoured hearing those words from Sachin. It was amazing to hear somebody of that calibre say something like that about me. It is making sure you take that on board but also stay grounded,” said the 25-year-old.
“Cricket is a fickle game. At the moment things are looking good and it’s about keeping that feeling,” he also added.
The last few months of the previous year was nothing short of extraordinary for Labuschagne. After getting into the Australia side by chance, ge went on to score 1,104 in 17 runs at an average of just under 65 — most runs in the calendar year.
Thanks to such glorious performance, Labuschagne was not only included in ICC’s 2019 Test Team of the Year, but was also named the Australian Test player of the year ahead of Steve Smith.
