Leaving past behind, Soumya sets sights on SL ODIs
Bangladesh top-order batter Soumya Sarkar looks forward to the Sri Lanka ODIs at home as preparations continue at Mirpur.
Bangladesh are on a winless streak for ten straight international matches (nine losses and one draw). With Sri Lanka likely to send a new-look side, the Tigers have an opportunity to get back to winning ways.
Soumya, who was part of a dismal New Zealand tour, has said that his team would like to see into the future rather than thinking too much about the past.
“Every match is important for Bangladesh. There is no point thinking about what had happened in New Zealand. It’s better to look forward. We have an ODI series against Sri Lanka. I hope everyone will do well in the home series leaving the past behind,” Soumya said on Wednesday.
He also hopes the Test performers in Sri Lanka tour to deliver at home. “Whenever we play, we play for win. We will look plan match-by-match. I expect us to do well in all three matches. It will be great if the guys who played Tests in Sri Lanka can give their best shot in the ODIs,” he said.
Bangladesh will have ace all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan and pacer Mustafizur Rahman back in the side after their IPL stints cut short by bubble-burst. Soumya feels their return to the team is a positive sign.
“Shakib bhai always brings two sides of the game, which is great for the team. Mustafiz did really well in the IPL. It’s a huge positive sign that they are coming back,” he added.
The three ODIs will be played on May 23, 25 and 28.
