Little bit unfair to judge Bangladesh for one series: Mashrafe

Before the start of the tri-nation series and the Sri Lanka series, many would have thought Bangladesh will win the tournament and also the series as they were the favorites to do so. But as much as Sri Lanka played well, Bangladesh played exceptionally poor compared to that.

After the defeat in the final of the tri-nation series and also in the Test and T20I series, the moral of the team is down. But the ODI captain Mashrafe Bin Mortaza believes it won’t be fair to judge Bangladesh for just one series.

Mashrafe told reporters:
“It won’t be fair to judge them for just one series. It will be little bit unfair. We lost series against England too, we lost one match against Afghanistan. But we played a lot of matches at home in that time. We had an opportunity to perform regularly.”

The ODI captain added:
“We played only 5 matches, it won’t be right to give any opinion. We lost Test series and the T20I series too. But in the last 4-5 months, we couldn’t perform according to our capability, we couldn’t perform in South Africa too. We have to find our weaknesses and have to comeback strongly.”

On experimenting the Test and T20I squads:
“In ODIs, there were no experiments. It began after Shakib’s injury. To fill Shakib’s place, we need two players anyway. It still remains a question that if those two players can fill Shakib’s place. All in all, it creates a serious thing to worry about.”

On failing to play the Sri Lankan spinners:
“We had to struggle a lot during the times of Shane Warne and Muralitharan. It is not like we play spin very well. We play well against spinners in good batting wickets.”
