The tourists started the day with 127 runs for three wickets. The start was slow by Mominul Haque and Tamim Iqbal. South African pacers managed to reverse swing the ball and troubled the Bangladeshi batsmen.
Just when the partnership was looking good, a sensational catch down the legside from wicket-keeper Quinton de Kock sent back Tamim for 39 off 67 (six fours and a six). The 55-run stand was broken by debutant Andile Phehlukwayo.
Mominul reached his 12th Test fifty in 112 balls. He survived two lbw shouts in one over of Kagiso Rabada, who proved to be unlucky despite creating problems for the opposition.
Mahmudullah Riyad came to bat at number six on his Test return. He looked to take chances and score runs. He is unbeaten on 50-ball 26 runs with five fours. Mominul is nearing a fifth Test century as he is on 72 runs off 138 balls including 12 boundaries.
Bangladesh scored 91 runs in 26 overs at 3.5 runs per over. The Tigers are at lunch with 218 runs for the loss of four wickets in 60 overs.
