The cricket scorer Umesh Lagad considers himself to be the luckiest man, who got a chance to register the first ever Double Super Over match on Sunday.

On Sunday, the match between the Mumbai Indians and the Kings XI Punjab played at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium went to wire and the winner was decided by the one-over eliminator.

Lagad, 55, is basically from the small village Chikhali (Navsari district in Gujarat). The village came to light when an actress Dipika Chikhalia from the same village, played Sita’s role in the Ramayana.

“In my nine years of scoring career, I have never witnessed such an exciting cricket game. All sitting in my room became so tense during the final stages of the match,”

Lagad, who has been living in the UAE for the last 10 years, said.

“We all were very excited and tense as well. Believe me though, sitting in the air conditioned room many of us had sweating on our foreheads.”

“The result of the match could have gone to any side.”

The rule of the Double Super over came only after the 2019 World Cup final between England and the New Zealand teams. Before that the number of boundaries were taken to decide the winner.

Lagad is also a local umpire and running cricket academy in the UAE. His family (wife and two daughters are living in India.
