Lyon hopes for match winning spin partnership with Agar
While many of the cricket fans wondering why O’Keefe had to be dropped from the side in spite of destructing India with spin wizardry, Nathan Lyon thinks the new gun Ashton Agar would be rightly fit in the spot in another subcontinent series to come that is against Bangladesh.
Left arm spinner Agar is hot favorite to partner Lyon on Sunday when visiting Aussies will take on Bangladesh in Dhaka as selectors unlikely to pick up uncapped Michael Swepson.
Steve O’Keefe, the star of the Pune Test was a sudden omission prior to Bangladesh tour but backing Agar, Lyon said, “I’ve seen him improve out of sight, really.”
“I think he’s bowling really well at the moment. I think he’s confident in his own game and he’s expressing himself, which is what you have to do. You have to believe in yourself and go out there and express yourself,” he said.
Australia, in their tour to India, dumbed the home team with a bamboozling spin partnership between Nathan Lyon and Steve O’Keefe.
Hoping for similar thing to happen with Agar, Lyon said, “I think we can work in a pretty similar partnership,” Lyon said. “We bowled together up in Darwin [in a training match] at similar times, and no doubt Smithy has a plan on how he’ll use his spinners.”
“No doubt we can have a similar partnership as what SOK [O’Keefe] and I did and how it worked in Pune,” he said.
“Unfortunately we didn’t get over the line in India, but I’m confident enough that we’ve got the right squad to get the job done here in Bangladesh,” Lyon added.
