Madhushanka had never been on present selectors’ radar: SLC
Sri Lankan pace bowler Shehan Madushanka, who has been caught by the police for keeping a small quantity of heroine was not in the present selectors’ radar, according to the chief selector Ashantha de Mel.
Speaking exclusively over telephone from Colombo, he said,
“Yes, it may be a rare case of a bowler grabbing hat-trick on his ODI debut but subsequently not being selected for the ODI team (though he played two T20Is thereafter) but he was never in contention when I took over the selection committee (last year).”
“I saw him playing in the Emerging Team but he has been an injury prone and we never selected him,” he said.
Former Sri Lanka coach Chandika Hathururusingha is believed to have had a high opinion about him. Incidentally, the 25-year-old Madhushanka’s name made headlines for the wrong reasons on the day when another debut hat-trick bowler Kagiso Rabada turned 25.
Those who know Shehan Madhushanka in Sri Lanka, rate him a good genuine fast bowler with a 140 plus bowling speed.
The right-arm pace bowler has steeped in the international cricket just a couple of years ago. He came to limelight when he took a hat trick against Bangladesh on his one-day international debut in January 2018. He also played two T20 matches against Bangladesh in 2018. After that he has not played an international since due to injury issue.
