Mahmudullah blames Khulna top-order
Gemcon Khulna lost their second match in the ongoing Bangabandhu T20 Cup today as the hype that surrounds the star-studded franchise was not reflected in the way they played at the Sher-E-Bangla National Cricket Stadium today.
Earlier, Khulna skipper Mahmdulullah Riyad won the toss and elected to bat first. So the question was being raised if the decision was right or wrong. However, the skipper backed the decision and blamed the batters for the side’s defeat.
“I think the decision (toss) was right. The wicket was quite hard and the new ball was swinging well. The wicket was great for batting. But we didn’t bat well and that’s the main thing. The lower-middle order did really good. But we could not do well as a whole batting unit, especially the top-order. Myself, Shakib, Imrul, and Bijoy will have to play better in the next games. Ultimately, the failure of the top-order has left us behind. But I don’t want to make it stand as an excuse. We want to come back strong and play as a batting unit,” he said.
Meanwhile, he praised middle-order batsmen Ariful and Shamim for their contribution with the bat as the batting duo formed a good partnership of 49 runs in the 6th wicket stand. He said, “The chemistry between Ariful and Shamim is really good. They have done well today again after the first match.”
